As the tenure of the current Municipal Corporation in Delhi expires in April 2017, Elections in Delhi's three municipal bodies north, south and east corporations will be held on 23rd April 2017. The final MCD election dates will be announced by the Delhi State Election Commission in few days.
Currently AAP Government ruling in Delhi since two years and party has steps up its election campaign for the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Polls 2017. While campaigning for the upcoming MCD elections in Uttam Nagar, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday, Delhi look like London if voted to power in the upcoming municipal polls. AAP has declared 198 contesting candidates name for upcoming Delhi Municipal Polls.
The Yogendra Yadav-led Swaraj India, a new political party that formed in October 2016, plans to field candidates in all 272 wards for the Delhi MCD polls. Swaraj India Party has declared list of 55 contesting name of candidates. Party has released its vision document on Sunday and promising "governance with zero-tolerance for corruption and a garbage-free and epidemic-free city."
The ruling BJP as well as opposition are trying to rope him in to give a boost to their campaign to dethrone the Delhi Municipal wards. In the last Delhi Municipal Corporation Election 2017, the BJP won 142 seats out of total 272 convincingly while the Congress emerged the runner-up with 78 seats. In South Delhi Municipal Corporation BJP won 44 out of the 104 Wards and Congress bagged 30. In North Delhi Municipal Corporation BJP won 59 ward and Congress won only 29 seats out of 104 wards. In East Delhi Municipal Corporation BJP had won 35 seats, while congress won only 19 seats out of 64 municipal wards.
Delhi government notifies delimitation of 272 wards ahead of Delhi municipal polls in the national capital. As per the instruction, the Delhi municipal polls are required to be completed before April 27, 2017.
While the number of wards in each of the three corporations - 104 each in South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and 64 in East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has remained same, the number of wards in a few assembly segments has changed, ranging from three to seven.
According to the notification issued by the Urban Development department following approval from Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, Matiala which falls under SDMC will have 7 wards, Madipur (4), Rajouri (4), Hari Nagar (3), Tilak Nagar (3), Janakpuri (4), Vikaspuri (6), Uttam Nagar (5), Dwarka (4), Najafgarh (5), Bijwasan (5), Palam (4), Jangpura (3), Kasturba Nagar (3), Malviya Nagar (3), RK Puram (3), Mehrauli (3), Chatarpur (4), Deoli (5), Ambdekar Nagar (3), Sangam Vihar (4) and Greater Kailash (3).
